Pre-Thoughts About Sénégal

I am super excited to finally travel to a place, I feel more connected to other than America. I'm a bit nervous about the unknown. My heart feels like it is going to come out of my chest because I am worried about people liking me, especially my host family. I am worried about whether my French is good enough and if I would learn Wolof quick enough. Most importantly, I am worried about the food. If anyone knows me, you know that I love food; and great food at that! I'm just trying to stay positive. I know that everything will go well.

What I Hope to Learn From Study Abroad?

Growing up in an Ivorian household, it may be easy to say that " I will adjust easily". Which is somewhat true, but there are some American habits that I have; that would not nessarliy be accepted in the Sénegalese culture. I hope that I am aware of those habits and am willing to change it once I notice them. This trip will give me a chance to think differently. There are many questions that I have and want answered, but the only way that I would get them answered is to stay open-minded and be understanding. I also have to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. I feel like I am going to be put in certain situations that I might not be able to control or speak up about due to what is culturally acceptable. This will definitely be adjustment to my life. Most importantly, I can't wait to know more about myself. This trip will give me an opportunity to put aside my sister, "little mom", and teammate role; and cater to all my needs and wants. I am super excited!!!

SÉNÉGAL HERE I COME !!!!
